EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball smashed seven home runs in a pair of wins over Nunez on Saturday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (30-8) has 14 games this season of hitting multiple home runs in a game.
The Bengals used a pair of solo home runs and a complete game by
Lane Fenske (New Iberia, LA, Catholic-New Iberia HS) for a 6-2 opener, then smashed five homers in a 14-6 finale.
Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) enjoyed a red-hot day, collecting 8 RBIs off three home runs and a double.
LSU Eunice aims to secure the series win on Sunday with a 1:00PM matinee at Bengal Stadium.
Game 1 vs. Nunez – W, 6-2
LSU Eunice used a big frame and another strong effort on the mound by Lane Fenske to take a 6-2 opener over Nunez. Fenske hurled his third complete game of the season, going the full seven innings.
The freshman gave up a sacrifice fly in the third and RBI single in the sixth, scattering six hits and one walk. Fenske struck out five of the first seven batters he faced, piling up ten strikeouts – his first double digit strikeout effort of the season.
He is the first LSUE freshman to record a 10-win season since Connor Benge went 11-1 during the 2023 campaign.
LSUE pushed across four runs in the third inning to take the lead for good, kick started by a solo home run from
Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS). Andrew Clapinski tripled home a pair of runs before
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) singled in Clapinski to make it 4-1 LSUE. Clapinski added a RBI single in the fourth before
Marshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) lifted a solo home run an inning later.
Clapinski was joined by
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) with multi-hit hit games.
Game 2 vs. Nunez – W, 14-6
Andrew Clapinski blasted three home runs to guide LSU Eunice to a 14-6 win over Nunez to cap the Saturday sweep. Clapinski is the first Bengal to hit three home runs in a single game since Brady Hebert – a fellow Catholic-Baton Rouge HS alum – accomplished the feat during the 2021 season against the same Nunez team.
Clapinski's long balls were part of a five home run game for LSUE. Clapinski started the power surge with a two-run blast to left field in the first inning, part of five-run opening frame. Marshall Louque and Mason Bordelon added RBI base hits, and
Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) scored on a wild pitch.
The Bengals pushed their lead to double digits an inning later with a six spot that included a trio of home runs. Clapinski added another two-run bomb to left field, followed by a three-run home run from Marshall Louque and a solo shot by Tyler Mitchell in the next at bat. The two teams traded runs in the third, with
Aidan Mouton's (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) RBI triple and Milan Obradovich's sacrifice fly making it a 13-4 LSUE advantage.
Clapinski added the final Bengal run in the fifth with a solo home run. The freshman accounted for five RBIs and three runs scored in his team-best eighth three-hit game of the season. Louque and Mitchell also notched multi-hit games with Louque adding four RBIs and two runs scored.
Mekai Gallien (Rosenberg, TX, Lamar Consolidated HS) recorded the win after 3.1 innings of shutout relief. Gallien worked around two hits with one strikeout.
Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) made the start, going two innings while
Dayton Hicks (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) and
David Goldapper (Parkland, FL, Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS) also saw time on the mound.
