EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball finished the weekend on a strong note, taking a 9-0 victory over Nunez in seven inning run-rule fashion at Bengal Stadium on Sunday. The Bengals (31-8) took a mercy rule decision for the 16th time this season.
The offense used a five-run fourth inning to put away the Pelicans for good.
Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) and
Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) used sacrifice hits to bring home runs before
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) launched the three-run home run that scraped the foul pole to give LSUE an 8-0 lead.
The home run was Mouton's 10th of the season and 21st of his LSUE career, tying Steven Sensley for the all-time career home run mark. Mouton is the first Bengal in program history to have back-to-back double digit home run seasons after hitting 11 one year ago. Sensley hit all 21 of his homers during the 2015 campaign.
Andrew Clapinski added a solo home run in the sixth inning, his fourth homer of the weekend. The long ball was theme throughout as LSUE used
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) solo home run in the first inning, part of a two-run frame for the Bengals.
Obradovich and Mouton each had two hits to pace the LSUE attack with Mouton accounting for three RBIs and two runs scored.
LSU Eunice pitching limited Nunez to just two hits on the day with
Beau Revord (Jefferson City, TN, Jefferson County HS) picking up his second win of the season after tossing four innings and getting the start. Revord walked three batters and struck out three. He retired the side in order two of the four full innings he pitched.
McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS) made his second appearance of the weekend, tossing three shutout relief innings. The southpaw gave up one hit while striking out three batters.
LSU Eunice is back at home on Tuesday for its final midweek game of the year, taking on South Arkansas at 4:00PM.
