EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used a big frame and seven different pitchers to take an 11-5 decision over South Arkansas on Tuesday at Bengal Stadium. It was LSUE's (32-8) final midweek of the regular season.
LSUE held a slim 3-2 advantage before breaking the game open in the third inning with a five-run frame. After
Marshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) walked,
Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) sent a bouncing line drive over the left fielder's head and used his speed to produce an inside-the-park home run to jump start the inning.
Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) followed with an opposite field home run to right center to give LSUE a 6-2 edge. The Bengals scored another run on a double steal, using an error on the throw to plate
Jaxon Landreneau (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS).
Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) finished the inning with an RBI double to plate
Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS).
Clapinski and Smith led LSUE with three hits each, part of a 10-hit Bengal attack. Clapinski doubled home a run in the second inning, while Smith had an RBI single in the second inning and an RBI double in the fourth. A bases loaded walk in the fifth inning made it a 10-2 game before
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) scored the final LSUE run in the seventh with an infield single that brought home
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS).
Kade LaCoste (Slidell, LA, Pope John Paul II HS) picked up the win in a Johnny Wholestaff game for the Bengal arms. LaCoste threw the first two innings, giving up one earned run off two hits.
Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS),
Mekai Gallien (Rosenberg, TX, Lamar Consolidated HS),
Hunter Gambel (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS),
Dayton Hicks (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS),
Ian Carlson (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood HS), and
Easton LeBlanc (Mandeville, LA, St. Paul's Catholic School) also saw time on the mound.
Gallien was a standout among the bunch, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
LSU Eunice returns to LCCAC action this weekend with a four-game series at Baton Rouge. The set starts on Friday with a 6:00PM first pitch from Pete Goldsby Field.
