Offense Rolls Bears, Mouton Makes History In Friday Victory

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball enjoyed another dominant evening and Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) launched a history making home run during the Bengals' 19-9 win at Baton Rouge CC on Friday to start the four-game LCCAC series.  LSUE (33-8) produced 20 hits in the game and six extra base hits including four home runs.

The most significant long ball from the Bengals came in the seventh inning when Aidan Mouton capped a five-run frame with a three-run home run to left field, pushing the LSUE lead to 14-8.  The home run, his 11th of the season and 22nd of his LSUE career, placed Mouton in sole possession of the career home run mark at LSU Eunice.  He surpassed Steven Sensley, who smashed 21 home runs in his lone year on campus in 2015.

Mouton is the first and only LSUE player to have consecutive double digit home run seasons.

The Bengals put an exclamation point on the win with another five runs in the ninth inning, using a two-run error off an infield single from Mouton, a two-run Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) home run, and a bases loaded walk.

Before LSUE's late offensive push, it was a back-and-forth night between the Bengals and Bears.  Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) see-sawed with Baton Rouge in the opening inning, having a two-run home run in the first inning and a two-run single in the second sandwiched between two BRCC runs.  LSUE pushed out to a 9-4 advantage in the fifth inning thanks to a three-run Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) home run, only to see it trimmed to 9-8 heading into the seventh inning.

Marshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) produced four hits in the game to lead LSUE's offense and was joined by Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS), Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS), Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS), and Mouton with three-plus hit games.

Lane Fenske (New Iberia, LA, Catholic-New Iberia HS) notched his 11th win of the season making his first Friday night start of the year.  The freshman tossed 5.2 innings, giving up seven earned runs while navigating seven hits, two walks and four hit by pitches.

Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) came out of the bullpen to toss 2.1 innings while Hunter Gambel (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS) tossed a perfect final frame.
