Bengals Grind Out Friday Sweep of Delgado

NEW ORLEANS, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball took a pair of tightly contested games at Delgado on Friday in LCCAC action.  The Bengals (28-6, 5-1 LCCAC) overcame early deficits in each game to secure the victory.
 
LSUE rallied with six unanswered runs to take a 6-2 opener against the Dolphins, followed by a 5-3 decision.  Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) was the top offensive performer with three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored – all coming in the finale.
 
The Bengals and Dolphins close out their series on Saturday.
 
Game 1 vs. Delgado CC – W, 6-2
LSU Eunice broke a tie game in the final inning with a four-run frame to take down Delgado 6-2 to open the Friday doubleheader.  Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) provided the game winning runs with a two-run double.
 
Smith's double came after LSUE put two runners on base following back-to-back hit by pitches and a balk landed both runners in scoring position.  Andrew Clapinski's (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) sacrifice fly and a two-out RBI single by Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) gave LSUE valuable insurance runs.
 
Aidan Mouton slammed the door with an inning of relief, giving up one hit and striking out a batter. Lane Fenske (New Iberia, LA, Catholic-New Iberia HS) did the heaving lifting on the mound, improving to 9-0 on the season.  Fenske went six innings, giving up two runs – one earned – off three hits and three free passes.  He would strike out four batters.
 
Delgado struck first with two runs in the first inning, using a bases loaded single and an LSUE error.
 
Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) tied the game up in the fourth a one-out double, scoring Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) andMarshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS)Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) was the lone Bengal with a multi-hit game.
 
Game 2 vs. Delgado CC – W, 5-3
Aidan Mouton launched a two-run home run to give LSU Eunice a lead it would never let go of, securing the Friday sweep in a 5-3 win.  Mouton led the way for LSUE, enjoying a 3-for-3 game.
 
The LSUE pitching staff did the rest, holding Delgado scoreless in six of the seven innings played.  McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS) turned in his best performance of the season, tossing five shutout innings to improve to 3-0 on the season.  Jacobs gave up two hits while striking out four batters.
 
Beau Revord (Jefferson City, TN, Jefferson County HS) picked up his first save of the season, getting the final two outs of the game.  Kade LaCoste (Slidell, LA, Pope John Paul II HS) received the no decision after pitching 1.1 innings in the start.
 
LSUE held an early lead, using a run off a Jordan Luna single in the first and a RBI single by Mouton an inning later.  Delgado pushed ahead in the third with a three-run home run.
 
Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) drew the Bengals all square with a RBI single in the third inning.
