Box Score LSU Eunice scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Bengals earned a 5-4 win over Brookhaven Sunday in the series finale.
With the game tied 3-3, LSUE rallied to take the lead as
Cameron Horton (Benton HS) was hit by a pitch,
Bo Myers (Zachary) doubled and both scored on a sacrifice bunt by
Gavin Bourgeois (Notre Dame).
Trailing 5-3 as the game moved to the ninth inning, the Bears responded with a run when Carlos Reyes walked and scored on a hit by Anthony Orta, but the Bengal defense held on for the win.
LSUE (10-0) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as
Koi Westbrook (Carencro) doubled, stole third and scored on a Brookhaven error.
The Bengals added a run in the bottom of the second as
Micah McHugh (Zachary) walked and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Johnny Johnson (Runnels).
The Bears (1-8) pushed across two runs in the top of the third, begun when DY Palmer walked with two outs and scored when Orta doubled.
Orta then scored on Colin Miner's double to force a 2-2 tie.
Brookhaven grabbed a lead in the top of the third frame when Reyes walked and scored on a two-out double by Miner.
The Bengals tied the game in the sixth inning when Westbrook opened with a double and scored on a RBI single by
Hunter Feduccia (Barbe).
LSUE starting pitcher
Michael Brawner (St. Joseph HS) went 4.2 innings, striking out four with two walks and three earned runs on seven hits.
Brian Metoyer (Natchitoches Central) earned the win as he fanned one, and scattered two hits over 3.1 innings.
Westbrook grabbed the save as he struck out one, walked one and allowed one run on two hits in the ninth inning.
Brookhaven outhit LSUE 11-5 but left 10 runners on base, while the Bengals stranded four in the game.
Westbrook went 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Bengals.
LSUE leaves Bengal Stadium for the first time this weekend for a trip to Wharton, Teas.
The Bengals will face Coastal Bend at 6 p.m. Friday before a Saturday doubleheader against Wharton County Junior College (10 a.m.) and Angelina College (1 p.m.).
