Box Score After dropping its first game of the season Friday, the Bengals bounced back with an 8-1 seven-inning win over Kellogg Community College.
LSUE starting pitcher
Zach Hester (Vidor)improved to 4-0 on the season as he struck out 12 and allowed one earned run on five hits over six innings.
Justin Barton (Caldwell Parish) pitched the final inning, striking out three of four batters he faced with one walk.
The Bengals scored first when
Gavin Bourgeois (Notre Dame) walked, stole both second and third before crossing home plate when
Michael Claverie (Live Oak) grounded out.
LSUE added three runs in the bottom of the third as
Hunter Feduccia (Barbe) doubled with two outs,
Koi Westbrook (Carencro) walked and
Bo Myers (Zachary) belted a home run.
The Bengals forged ahead, 7-0 with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth frame.
Cameron Horton (Benton HS) walked with two outs and then both Kirkpatrick and
Jacob Richard (Teurlings Catholic) were hit by pitches to load the bases.
Bourgeois then cleared the bases with a double to plate Horton, Kirkpatrick and Richard.
Kellogg avoided the shutout with a run in the top of the sixth inning as Raphe Gross singled, stole second and scored on Cooper Marshall's double.
The Bengals got that run back in the bottom of the inning when laverie walked and scored when Johnson reached on a fielder's choice.
Bourgeois went 2-for-3 with three RBI with a run scored, while Myers finished 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
LSUE will face Grayson College at 3 p.m. Saturday before taking on Kellogg again at 7 p.m.
