Box Score MARIANNA, Florida - LSU Eunice's Anthony Forte hit a home run in the top of the seventh to help lift the Bengals to a 3-2 win over Wallace Community College – Dothan in the Chipola College tournament.
Bengal pitchers
Brian Metoyer (Natchitoches Central),
Hunter Joubert (Parkview Baptist) and
Josh Taylor (Teurlings Catholic) all saw action in the bottom of the seventh as the trio combined for a shutout inning to seal the win.
LSUE (17-2) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, begun when
Hunter Feduccia (Barbe) walked,
Cameron Horton (Benton HS) was hit by a pitch and
Micah McHugh (Zachary) walked to load the bases.
Feduccia scored on a wild pitch, while McHugh scored on a double by
Anthony Forte (Conant) and the Bengals held their lead until the fourth frame.
Wallace then tied the game, begun when Nick Lewis reached first on a wild pitch and Tanner Frabott singled.
With two outs, Eric Rodriguez hit by pitch and Tyler Halas walked with the bases loaded to plate Lewis.
Stephenson walked to allow Frabott to score before
Ridge Heisler (Mangham) struck out Mitch McLendon as Wallace left the bases loaded.
Bengal starter
Braxton Smith (Orangefield) allowed two earned runs on two hits in 3.2 innings of work before being replaced by Heisler (2K, 1 BB).
Forte finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Comeau went 2-for-4 as the other Bengal batter with multiple hits.
LSUE faces Grand Rapids Community College at noon Saturday before facing host Chipola at 3 p.m.
