Box Score MARIANNA, Florida –LSU Eunice exploded for six runs in the fifth inning as the Bengals earned a 9-2 win Saturday over host Chipola College's own tournament.
The two teams meet again at 11 a.m. Sunday to finish the Bengals' weekend games.
Chipola grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the bottom of the first when Jose Caballero doubled and scored on a two-base hit from Brody Wofford.
Michael Claverie (Live Oak) opened the third inning with a solo home run to tie the game, 1-1.
LSUE added a run in the top of the fourth as
Micah McHugh (Zachary) was hit by a pitch, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by
Koi Westbrook (Carencro).
The fifth inning, six-run surge by the Bengals began when
Bo Myers (Zachary) walked and Claverie singled before a single by
Hunter Feduccia (Barbe) plated Myers.
Cameron Horton (Benton HS) singled in Claverie, while
Anthony Forte (Conant) reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Feduccia.
McHugh and Westbrook walked to load the bases before
Jacob Richard (Teurlings Catholic) was hit by a pitch to plate Forte.
Myers singled in Westbrook and McHugh to push the Bengals ahead, 8-1.
Claverie opened the sixth inning with his ninth home run of the season to help LSUE build on its comfortable lead.
Chipola's Max Guzman led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to close the gap to 9-2.
Zach Hester (Vidor) improved to 5-0 on the season as he struck out three, walked one and allowed two earned runs on nine hits over six innings.
Justin Barton (Caldwell Parish) pitched the final inning as he struck out two and walked two but did not allow a run.
Claverie went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Westbrook finished 2-for-2 with a RBI.
Feduccia (2-for-4, RBI, RS) and Horton (2-for-4, RBI) were the other Bengal batters with multiple hits.
