Box Score NEW ORLEANS – LSU Eunice and Delgado Community College split a doubleheader Friday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
The Bengals won the first game 8-3, while the Dolphins earned a 3-2 walk-off victory in the finale.
The two teams will complete the series at 1 p.m. today in New Orleans.
Delgado (26-11) grabbed an early lead in the opener as the Dolphins' Brandt Broussard walked and scored on a double by JP LeGreco.
LSUE (35-8) tied the game in the top of the third when
Jacob Richard (Teurlings Catholic) singled, advanced on an error and scored on double by
Bo Myers (Zachary).
The Bengals added two runs in the fourth, begun when
Michael Claverie (Live Oak) was hit by pitch and
Hunter Feduccia (Barbe) singled to open the frame.
Claverie scored on a sacrifice by
Brent Hebert (Cypress Ranch), while Feduccia crossed home plate on a double by
Micah McHugh (Zachary).
LSUE pushed ahead 5-1 with two more runs in the top of the fifth, begun when
Gavin Bourgeois (Notre Dame) walked,
Braden Comeaux (Barbe) was hit by pitch and Feduccia walked to load the bases.
Hebert was hit by pitch to plate Bourgeois and
Cameron Horton (Benton HS) walked to push in Comeaux.
Delgado closed the gap to 5-2 with a run in the bottom of the sixth when Broussard tripled and scored on Daniel Lahare's ground-out.
The Bengals added three insurance runs in the top of the eighth, begun when Myers reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a hit by Comeaux.
Claverie reached on a fielder's choice and Feduccia doubled in two more runs as the Bengals moved ahead, 8-2.
The Dolphins closed the gap to 8-3 in the bottom of the ninth when Broussard singled and scored on a hit by Chip Bonura, but Delgado left the bases loaded.
Ridge Heisler (Mangham) improved to 4-0 on the season as he struck out three, walked three and allowed three earned runs on five hits over 8.1 innings.
Richard Hebert (Westminster) struck out one and allowed one hit over the final four batters faced.
LSUE finished with 13 hits as five Bengals recorded multiple hits.
Bourgeois (3-for-5), Comeaux (2-for-4, RBI), Feduccia (2-for-4, 2 RBI), McHugh 2-for-5, RBI) and Jacob Richard (2-for-5) led the LSUE offense.
Game Two: Delgado 3, LSUE 2
With the game tied after the scheduled seven innings, the Dolphins grabbed the win in the bottom of the eighth when Blake Way doubled with two outs and then scored on a hit by Tyler Thompson.
After two scoreless innings, Delgado pushed two runs across in the bottom of the third inning, begun when Tyler Thompson walked and scored on a double by Broussard. LeGreco singled with two outs to push in Broussard scored as the Dolphins led, 2-0.
The Bengals forced a 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth as Claverie and Feduccia both singled and scored on a hit by Horton.
LSUE starter
Zach Hester (Vidor) went 5.1 innings as he struck out two, walked four and allowed two earned runs on three hits.
Brent Hebert (Cypress Ranch) (1-1) suffered the loss as he struck out three, walked one and allowed one earned run on four hits.
Comeaux (2-for-4) and Horton (2-for-2) led the Bengal offense who finished with seven hits.
