Bengals fall in home finale

In a game where both teams battled for the lead, second-ranked LSU Eunice fell 7-5 to Tyler Junior College Saturday in the Bengals' home finale.

LSUE (42-9) closes the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at Ranger College.  A doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. Saturday with a noon game on Sunday.

The Apaches (30-19) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Taylor Broadway reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a Bengal error.
 
LSU Eunice  tied the game in the bottom of the third frame as Anthony Forte (Conant) doubled and scored on a double by Brent Hebert (Cypress Ranch).
 
Tyler retook a 3-1 advantage with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, begun when Jarel McDade walked and scored on a throwing error.
 
Blaze Beason walked and scored on a hit by Matt Mikusek to give the Apaches back the lead.
 
Broadway homered in the top of the fifth to push Tyler ahead, 4-1 but the Bengals quickly responded to jump back ahead.
 
Micah McHugh (Zachary) singled and scored on a ground out by Forte, while Koi Westbrook (Carencro) doubled, Gavin Bourgeois (Notre Dame) walked and both advanced home on an error to force a 4-4 tie.
 
Brent Hebert singled, moved to third on an error and scored on a single by Braden Comeaux (Barbe) as the Bengals grabbed a 5-4 advantage.
 
Tyler Junior College answered with two runs in the top of the sixth, begun when Beason walked and scored on a hit by Braden Wise.
 
Tyler Abney singled and scored on a hit by Jarrod Wells to push the Apaches ahead, 6-5.
 
Tyler JC added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Blake Maddox walked and scored on a hit by Abney.
 
The Bengals threatened in the eighth and the ninth innings but could not score as Tyler held on for the 7-5 win.
 
LSUE starter Michael Brawner (St. Joseph HS) pitched three innings as he struck out three, walked two and scattered two hits.
 
Zach Hester (Vidor) (9-2) suffered the loss as he went three innings, striking out four, walked three and allowed four earned runs on six hits.

Richard Hebert (Westminster) (1 BB, 1 ERm 1 H), Justin Barton (Caldwell Parish) (2K, 1 H), Clay Moffitt (Catholic) (1K, 2 BB) and Hunter Joubert (Parkview Baptist)all saw action on the mound for the Bengals.

LSUE finished with 11 hits, led by Brent Hebert (2-for-4)m 2 RBI), Comeaux (2-for-4, RBI), Feduccia (2-for-4) and McHugh (2-for-4).
