Box Score RANGER, Texas – Second-ranked LSU Eunice scored 12 runs on 13 hits as the Bengals earned a 12-0 win at Ranger College Sunday in the Bengals' final regular season game.
The Bengals (45-9) pushed a run across in the top of first inning when
Gavin Bourgeois (Notre Dame) walked, advanced on an error, stole third and scored on a sacrifice by
Braden Comeaux (Barbe).
LSUE added a run in the top of the third on a solo home run by
Anthony Forte (Conant) to push the Bengals ahead, 2-0.
Another Bengal run came in the top of the fourth when
Michael Claverie (Live Oak) doubled and scored on a sacrifice by
Gabe Hannum (Zachary).
LSUE added two more runs in the top of the fifth to move ahead, 5-0.
Forte walked, Bourgeois reached on a fielder's choice and both scored on a double by Comeaux.
The Bengals' offensive barrage continued with three more runs in the top of the fifth, begun when Hannum led off with a solo home run.
Westbrook singled and Forte homered for the second time in the game, his sixth of the season.
The Bengals completed the romp with four more runs in the top of the seventh, begun when Comeaux singled and
Hunter Feduccia (Barbe) singled, while
Bo Myers (Zachary) was hit by pitch to load the bases.
McHugh doubled in Comeaux and Feduccia to push the Bengals ahead, 10-0.
Forte singled in McHugh and Myers to complete the scoring and a 12-0 win.
Clay Moffitt (Catholic) (6-1) earned the shut-out victory as he struck out three, walked one and allowed three hits over four innings.
Michael Brawner (St. Joseph HS) (2 K, 1 H),
Josh Taylor (Teurlings Catholic) (2 K, 1 BB) and
Hunter Joubert (Parkview Baptist)(1K) also saw action on the mound for the Bengals.
Forte led the LSUE offense as he went 3-for-3 with five RBI and three runs scored.
Comeaux (2-for-3, 3 RBI), Feduccia (2-for-4) and Westbrook (2-for-3) also had multiple hits for the Bengals.
Top-ranked Jones County Junior College (44-2, 26-2) won the MACJC regular season championship and the Bobcats will host the Region 23 tournament that is set to begin on May 17 in Ellisville, Mississippi.
The six-team, double-elimination region tournament will consist of JCJC, LSU Eunice and the four winners of the MACJC playoff series.
