EUNICE, La. – No. 8 LSU Eunice used five North Lake College errors to score four unearned runs in a 10-0 to start the 2018 campaign. The Bengals improve to 15-1 under Jeff Willis in season openers.
It's the eighth straight win for the Bengals over the Blazers. The two have opened up the season the last six years running.
Jacob Richard started the game with a lead-off single and scored off a Cameron Horton double two batters later. The Bengals struck for another first inning run after Hayden Mixon drew a bases loaded walk.
That was more than enough for the sterling effort on the mound by Zach Hester and Brent Hebert. The duo combined for a three-hit shutout while striking out 11 batters and not issuing a walk. Hester (1-0) picked up his 10
th win as a member of LSUE after throwing four complete innings.
The Bengals plated two more runs in the fourth thanks to a Jacob Richard 2-RBI double. The sophomore centerfielder enjoyed a 3-for-4 evening, driving in 3 runs and scoring twice.
An inning later, LSUE exploded for four runs in the fifth inning. Koi Westbrook drew a four-pitch walk then and would later score off a passed ball. Austin Kirkpatrick crossed home off another wild pitch before Richard drove in another run. Mason Templet capped off the frame by scoring off of Nick Bellina's fielder's choice.
LSUE secured the run rule in the seventh inning thanks to two runs including Nick Bellina's RBI single, part of a two run inning.
The Bengals and Blazers will play tomorrow at 7:00PM. The game is pushed back to later in the day because of early morning rain expected to affect the Eunice area. You can watch the game on Bengals All-Access online at
