Bengals Fight In First Half But Fall To Co-Lin Late

Box Score

SUMMIT, Ms. – A third quarter swoon was too much for LSU Eunice to overcome as the Bengals dropped an 86-61 decision to Copiah-Lincoln on the final day of the Coca-Cola Classic on the campus of Southwest Mississippi CC.

LSU Eunice and Copiah-Lincoln were back and forth throughout the first half, trading leads nine separate times.  Arianna Dargin (Iowa, LA, Iowa HS) led the Bengals' offense in the first half with 11 of her team-high 17 points as LSUE went in the locker rooms down 35-34.  A stifling LSUE defense held the Wolves to 0-for-11 from three-point range.

Co-Lin came out hot to start after intermission, rattling off an 11-2 run to begin the third quarter.  The Bengals were outscored 24-13 in the frame as the Wolves' lead swelled to 12 points, 59-47.  LSUE's offensive trouble continued in the fourth quarter as Co-Lin would close with a 25 -point victory.

Darien Tubby paced Co-Lin with a game-high 19 points on the afternoon.

Dargin's 17 points were bolstered by Bethany Broussard (Iowa, LA, Iowa HS) bucketing 10 points and Christina Canale's (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) seven rebounds.

LSUE will continue a swing of Region 23 opponents with Holmes Community College.  The Bengals will host the Bulldogs in a doubleheader starting with the women's contest at 6:00PM.  Fans can find the latest Bengals information on social media via Twitter (@LSUEBengalsWBB), Facebook (@LSUEuniceBasketball) and Instagram (@LSUEBengals).
