Box Score EUNICE, La. – A suffocating defensive performance paved the way for LSU Eunice to cruise past Bossier Parish, 97-72, on Monday inside the HPRE Center. The victory avenged a setback in north Louisiana to the Cavaliers earlier this season.
The Bengals rotated between a full court and half court trap to great success, generating 18 steals, 17 deflections, six blocks and 34 turnovers on the night. LSUE turned that into 38 points on the night.
LSUE built a quick 10 point lead in the first quarter thanks to
Ava Jones (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) and
Bethany Broussard (Iowa, LA, Iowa HS) combining for 13 of the team's 26 points in the frame. The Bengals would push their lead to 18 points at the half, 50-32.
Jones spearheaded the first half with 11 of her career best 13 points coming before intermission.
The Bengals continued to roll after intermission, stretching their lead to as large as 31 points in the fourth quarter. Broussard would lead the LSUE charge with a team-high 19 points. The sophomore was one of five players in double figures.
Tremeeka Spikes (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) (14 points),
De'Asia Dixon (Shreveport, LA, Huntington HS) (13 points) and
Sissy Saucier (Ragley, LA, South Beauregard HS) (11 points) also recorded double-digit point efforts.
LSUE will return to the court after the holidays to host Coastal Bend College for a two-game set. The Bengals and Cougars will play Friday, January 4 on 6:00PM and Saturday, January 5 at 2:00PM.
