EUNICE, La. – Andrew Sheridan helped LSU Eunice secure two more games against Kellogg CC with standout performances both on the mound and at the plate.
The Sulphur product secured his third win of the season with another quality start, going 6.1 innings allowing just one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out five in Saturday's 7-1 matinee. The infielder also collected a pair of hits, two runs and two RBIs to go along with three stolen bases in LSUE's 12-4 series clinching victory.
The Bengals (15-2) head out to Andalusia, AL next weekend for a three game series against L.B. Wallace Community College. Friday's doubleheader begins at 12:00PM followed by a Saturday finale also at noon.
GAME ONE
LSUE used a sterling effort from Andrew Sheridan on the mound until the bats came alive late in a 7-1 victory over Kellogg CC.
Sheridan (3-0) gave up a walk and base hit in the first four innings before the Bengal bats could get on the board. The right-hander induced seven fly outs and four groundouts to go with his five strikeouts on the day.
The Bengals struck for three runs off of three hits in the fourth inning. Brent Hebert's one-out double was followed by a Cameron Horton double to score Hebert. Two batters later, Mason Templet and Slate Fuller connected on back-to-back two-out hits and give LSUE a 3-0 edge. Templet's triple was his second of the season.
The St. Thomas More product led the way offensively, racking up two hits as well as a pair of runs and RBIs.
LSUE plated four more in the sixth highlighted by Bren Faulk's 2-RBI sacrifice grounder.
Nathan Holmes closed the game by securing the final two outs in relief on fly outs.
GAME TWO
A six-run fifth inning helped LSUE overcome an early hole as the Bengals ended their series against Kellogg CC with a 12-4 victory. LSU Eunice scored 12 unanswered runs after falling behind 4-0 through an inning and a half.
Austin Bradford settled down the Bengals pitching staff after Andrew Lowe was tagged for four runs, three earned in the first two innings. Bradford (1-0) provided four innings of two-hit scoreless relief that including seven strike outs in that span.
The redshirt sophomore earned his first win of the year by retiring nine of the first ten batters he faced and did not allow a baserunner to reach second base.
Koi Westbrook helped LSUE cut the deficit in half, 4-2, with a two-RBI single in the second. The Bengals took the lead for good with a six-run fifth capped off by Westbrook stealing home on a first and third situation.
The Bengals were aggressive on the base paths, stealing 11 bases led by Andrew Sheridan's three swipes.
Sheridan helped LSUE notch a double-digit run output for the 12
th time this season with a two-RBI single, part of a three run frame making it 12-4.
Following Bradford's relief appearance, the quartet of Justin Barton, Jacob Spell, Noah Beason and Landon Clifton held serve allowing one hit over the three remaining innings. The foursome also struck out seven batters, including three from Clifton to close out the game.
LSUE pitching struck out 15 Kellogg batters over the game.
