Box Score 2 ANDALUSIA, AL – LSUE split a pair against Alabama state powers, taking down host-L.B. Wallace. The Bengals fell to Wallace State, 5-0.
Johnny Johnson drove in three runs in the Bengals' 8-4 opening win before the Bengal bats fell silent with a one-hitter against Wallace State.
LSUE will close out its trip to Andalusia tomorrow with an 11:00AM game against Wallace State.
GAME ONE
Johnny Johnson enjoyed a 3-RBI afternoon while Andrew Sheridan stayed undefeated on the mound in LSUE's 8-4 win over the homestanding L.B. Wallace. The Bengals used base running and walks to pull away from the Saints late in the scheduled seven inning contest.
Johnny Johnson helped the Bengals stretch their lead to 6-2 in the 6
th after driving home Hayden Mixon on a RBI-single, then allowing Chance Clark to steal home on a 1st and 3rd situation a batter later.
The sophomore accounted for two earlier runs with a bases loaded sacrifice grounder in the 2nd inning to give LSUE an early 2-0 lead, and blasted a solo home run in the fourth to make it 4-1 Bengals.
LSUE extended its lead in the seventh with Slate Fuller (hit by pitch) and Bren Faulk (walk) advancing with the bases loaded.
Mason Templet led the Bengals' 12-hit barrage with a 3-for-4 game, scoring a pair of runs.
Andrew Sheridan (4-0) allowed five runs and two earned runs in this first "Game One" start. The freshman struck out four batters and did not allow a walk. The trio of Austin Bradford, Hunter Joubert and Landon Clifton pieced together the final two innings. Clifton recorded his first save of the season in relief of Joubert after he allowed a run to cross in the seventh.
GAME TWO
Wallace State's Blake Rivera pitched an eight-inning gem as he no-hit the Bengals in a 5-0 LSUE setback. LSU Eunice was able to get a hit off of Lions reliever Austin Parker in the ninth.
WSCC touched LSUE starter Dane Dixon for two runs in the opening frame off of two hits and two errors. The Lions' Kevin Bryant added a solo home run an inning later to make it a 3-0 Wallace State advantage.
Dixon (0-1) was pulled after 3.2 innings, scattering three runs on six hits while striking out four and walking one. Justin Barton pitched the remainder, allowing two earned run off four hits and one walk while sitting down three Lion batters.
LSUE had an opportunity in the sixth when Evan Keller reached on a one-out walk then stole second. The Bengals were denied any more as Jacob Richard and Mason Templet grounded out and flied out, respectively.
Templet recorded the lone hit for the Bengals with a one-out single in the ninth inning.
Rivera went eight inning striking out six batters, forcing seven fly outs and ten ground outs. The Auburn signee issued four walks.
