Bengals Use Fast Start To Take Down BRCC

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice roared out to 14 runs in the first four innings and held on for a 14-10 win over Baton Rouge CC.  The Bengals used a seven-run second inning to help provide the padding to thwart BRCC's comeback bid.

LSUE (21-4) found itself in a 2-1 hole in its at-bat in the second inning.  The Bengals tied up the game after Jacob Richard drove in Tristan Welch with a run scoring single.  After Koi Westbrook's bunt single help load the bases, Chance Clark blasted the Bengals' first grand slam of the season to give LSUE a 6-2 edge.  After Brent Hebert reached on a bunt single, Mason Templet left the ballpark with a two-run home run to cap off the six-hit, seven-run inning.

Andrew Sheridan (6-0) would hold the Bears down in the third as the Bengals continued to add to their lead.  The freshman threw only four innings and left the game with a 12-3 lead.  Sheridan scattered three earned runs off six hits while striking out five batters.

The Bengals pushed across four runs in the third highlighted by Koi Westbrook's run scoring triple.  Evan Keller's second sacrifice fly of the game and Brent Hebert's RBI single in the fourth capped the Bengals' scoring on the night.

BRCC would not go quietly as it would score at least a run for five consecutive innings.  Micheal Smith led the Bears offense with a three-hit, three-RBI night as the Bengals would run through six relievers on the night.

Chance Clark and Johnny Johnson both posted three-hit evenings while Brent Hebert and Mason Templet each drove in three runs.

LSUE and BRCC return to Baton Rouge on Sunday to complete the home-and-home weekend.  Due to expected weather in the Capital City area, the game has been pushed back to a 6:00PM start.
