Baseball Scores Friday Sweep of Coastal Bend

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used a pair of strong starts on the mound to secure a Friday sweep of Coastal Bend.  The two teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow with a single game set for 12:00PM from Bengal Stadium.
 
Zach Hester and Andrew Sheridan combined to give up one run and nine hits while striking out 13 Cougar batters.  The duo allowed one hit over 11 innings pitched.
 
The Bengals cruised 11-1 in a run-rule Game One, followed by a 4-1 decision in the night cap.
 
Fans can watch Saturday's finale on-line on Bengal All-Access.  Bayou Sports Network will have an audio feed with Randy Guillory on the call.
 
GAME ONE
LSU Eunice piled up 11 hits to secure an 11-1 mercy-rule win in five innings over Coastal Bend.  The game was scheduled for a seven inning opener in today's doubleheader.
 
Mason Templet put the Bengals on the board in the first inning with a two-out double to score Brent Hebert.  Coastal Bend quickly responded with Cody Lee blasting a solo home run to left field and tie up the game, 1-1.
 
LSUE would score ten unanswered runs to close out the game.  Evan Keller began the onslaught after a throwing error by center fielder J Rodriguez.  Keller and Johnny Johnson both reached base with consecutive two-out singles. 
 
The Bengals plated two more runs in the third then followed up an inning later with three runs.  Johnny Johnson scored a run off a fielder's choice then Slate Fuller belted a two-out bases loaded two-RBI single to make it a 7-1 LSUE advantage.
 
Chance Clark and Brent Hebert crossed two more in the fifth before the Bengals loaded up the bases again for Fuller.  After the freshman worked a walk to score Clark, Cameron Horton ended the game with a two-run single.
 
Hebert and Westbrook led the Bengals attack with a pair of hits as every LSUE player recorded a hit on the game.  Hebert also added two stolen bases to pace the Bengals on the base paths.
 
Zach Hester threw a complete game, scattering one run off six hits and one walk.  Hester notched his fifth win of the season while striking out five.
 
GAME TWO
Andrew Sheridan threw another jewel as LSU Eunice provided clutch hits to secure a 3-1 win over Coastal Bend. 
 
Sheridan improved to 7-0 on the season after six scoreless innings, spraying three hits while striking out seven batters.  The Sulphur HS product retired the first ten batters in order before giving up a one-out single in the fourth.
 
Johnny Johnson provided a two-out double to score Koi Westbrook who reached on an error by second baseman Bryce Symmes.  Fuller added another run in the fourth after a fly ball was dropped by right fielder Kyler Bumstead that allowed Brent Hebert to score from second base.
 
Cameron Horton notched a critical insurance run in the seventh with a lead-off opposite field home run, his team best sixth of the season.
 
Coastal Bend finally put a run across in the eighth after Jared Irvine singled off of Andrew Bradford to score A.D. Pena, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
 
The Bengals added a final run in the bottom half of the inning off a strike three passed ball that allowed Chance Clark to score.  Bradford struck out three batters in two innings of work, giving up one run off one hit.
 
Landon Clifton picked up his fifth save of the season after working around two walks and striking out a pair in the ninth inning.
