EUNICE, La. – Mason Templet enjoyed a four-hit afternoon as the Bengals scored their fourth run-rule victory of the week defeating Coastal Bend College 11-1. LSUE outscored its opponents 49-3 over a five game span.
Templet started the onslaught with a two run double in the first inning and would later score on a Jacob Richard single, part of a four-run opening inning for the Bengals. The St. Thomas More product would later double again in the fourth inning, scoring Brent Hebert, making it a 6-1 LSUE advantage.
The sophomore was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Doubles were a theme for the Bengals as LSU Eunice collected six double baggers on the afternoon, including three from Templet. Johnny Johnson, Slate Fuller and Cameron Horton rounded out the doubles with Fuller and Horton each driving in runs with their base hits.
Brent Hebert helped the Bengals build up their lead in the later innings with a sixth inning solo home run and the walk-off RBI triple to plate Chance Clark.
Hebert joined Templet and three other Bengals to enjoy a multi-hit game to lead the 16-hit attack.
The Bengals ran out six different pitchers against Coastal Bend with starter Josh Taylor seeing the most action, logging 2.2 innings. Dane Dixon picked up the win after throwing a one-hit fifth inning, allowing one hit while striking out two batters. Taylor, Dixon, Justin Barton, Gage Trahan, Brian Fairbanks and Jacob Spell combined for eight strikeouts and three walks while giving up one run off six hits.
