EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used a four-run seventh inning to push past Weatherford College for good as the Bengals survived an offensive shootout, 12-8. The two teams combined for 20 runs and 27 hits including nine doubles.
Cameron Horton and Evan Keller helped break a 7-7 tie in the seventh inning with a pair of two-run doubles to give LSUE an 11-7 advantage. Horton was 2-for-4 on the night with those two RBIs and three runs scored while Keller produced a career's best three RBIs on the night.
Weatherford College raced out to an early 5-2 lead, chasing Bengals' starting pitcher Zach Hester after three innings. The Coyotes scored four earned runs off six hits and two walks off of the LSUE ace.
The bottom of the LSUE lineup paced the mid-inning rally. Koi Westbrook reached on an error in the fourth inning that allowed Cameron Horton to score, while Evan Keller followed that up with a run scoring single. Jacob Richard would tie the game up 5-5 in the fifth with a two-out RBI single. The Teurlings Catholic product would score off a throwing error by WC catcher Landon Gray in a pick-off attempt of Slate Fuller at third base. The errant throw allowed both Fuller and Richard to score.
Austin Bradford would steady the Bengals on the mound, picking up his second win of the season. Bradford pitched three innings while scattering three earned runs off four hits and two walks while striking out three batters. A two-run single from Andrew Keefer off Bradford would tie the game 7-7 in the 6
th inning.
The Coyotes would cut the deficit to 11-8 in the eighth inning before Andrew Sheridan provided a valuable insurance run with a run scoring single off the bench.
Brent Hebert and Jacob Richard led LSUE's 15-hit attack with three-hit evenings. Keefer was the top Coyote with a three-hit, three-RBI game.
