EUNICE, La. – Andrew Sheridan improved to 8-0 on the season as LSU Eunice outlasted Weatherford 3-1 in a classic pitching duel. One night removed from a combined 27 hits and 20 runs, the Bengals and Coyotes managed just four runs and 12 hits.
Sheridan retired the first 11 batters he faced, scattering one earned run off three hits and two walks in six innings pitched. The Sulphur HS product struck out five batters.
Kenneth Waller proved to be effective on the mound for Weatherford College. The left-hander gave the Bengals trouble as he held LSUE scoreless through the first four innings. Waller struck out four batters, gave up three hits and five walks.
Both teams were able to plate a run in the fifth inning. The Coyotes were on the board first after a bases loaded sacrifice from Yaniel Ramos brought home JT Thompson. Mason Templet responded with a two-out single to score Johnny Johnson after Waller issued two walks.
The Coyotes pulled Waller in the sixth and LSUE capitalized on the pitching change. Toby Davis walked Cameron Horton to lead off the inning and Jacob Richard put both of them in scoring position with a double. Koi Westbrook provided the go-ahead runs with a two RBI single.
Richard paced the Bengals offense with a perfect 3-for-3 night, accounting for half of LSUE's six hits.
The trio of Justin Barton, Brent Hebert and Landon Clifton held the Coyote bats in check for the final three innings. The relievers accounted for five strike outs and three walks while giving up three hits. Clifton notched the save and halted a Weatherford threat with runners on second and third base.
