LSUE Rallies For Win vs. Jones County In Pitching Duel

EUNICE, La. – No. 2 LSU Eunice used a strong effort on the mound by Zach Hester and an opportunistic eighth inning to down No. 1 Jones County, 3-2.

Both teams capitalized on mistakes with 16 walks and five wild pitches issued.  Four of the five runs scored were a result of a base on balls.

Jones County struck first in third inning after a lead-off walk to Trace Henry.  After a stolen base and throwing error by LSUE pitcher Zach Hester but Henry at third base, Luther Woullard's sacrifice fly gave the Wildcats a 1-0 edge.

Hester received a no-decision after holding Jones County scoreless the remainder of his seven innings pitched.  The sophomore struck out ten batters while scattering one hit and three walks.

JCJC added another run in the top of the eighth after Austin Bradford issued a lead-off walk to Stephen Matthews.  Woullard drove in his second run of the game on a RBI single, plating Matthews.  Justin Barton came in relief and induced a ground ball to Mason Templet for the force out at second with the bases loaded.

Wildcat starter Tyler Spring held the Bengals in check for the majority of his seven innings pitched.  The right-hander gave up one hit and five walks while striking out seven batters.

Chance Clark led off the bottom half of the inning with the second hit of the game off of reliever Luke McKenzie.  Clark advanced to third on two wild pitches and scored on a double steal of first and third after Brent Hebert was walked.  Brent Hebert reached on another base on balls and reach second on the Bengals' second double steal of the game.  Micah McHugh tied the game up with a sacrifice grounder to short, scoring Hebert.  Templet would score a batter later on a wild pitch, giving LSUE its first lead of the game 3-2.

Landon Clifton notched the save by inducing three fly outs.  Justin Barton was credited with his third win of the season after grabbing the final two outs of the eighth.
