Templet, Mixon Mash Bengals To Road Win

WHARTON, Tx. – The duo of Mason Templet and Hayden Mixon shouldered the load for LSU Eunice in a 10-2 road win at Wharton County.  The Bengal sophomores combined for half of LSUE's four hits and drove in six runs.

A week removed from blasting his first career home run with LSUE (42-4), Mixon belted a pair of solo home runs against the Pioneers.

Templet started the Bengals' scoring with a two-out single to plate Chance Clark in the first inning.  Clark picked up a pair of hits and scored three runs on the afternoon.

Koi Westbrook helped push the LSUE lead to 3-0 in the second inning by reaching on an error at first base that allowed Hayden Mixon to score.  Westbrook forced another Wharton County error by stealing third base and scored on an overthrow by WCJC catcher CJ Zepeda.  The Carencro High product paced LSU's nine stolen base attack with three swipes on the night.

Brent Hebert continued the early output with a run scoring single in the third inning, plating Chance Clark.

Dane Dixon limited the Pioneers' offense in his 4.1 inning outing.  Dixon gave up two runs off four hits and one walk while striking out three batters.  The redshirt freshman received the no-decision after not pitching the minimum five innings.  Jacob Spell worked out of traffic in relief, inducing a strike out and fly out with the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

Spell picked up his fourth win of the year after throwing 1.2 inning of scoreless relief, giving up just one hit and striking out three.

The Bengals gave their pitchers more than enough insurance with four runs in the fourth inning.  LSUE loaded the bases after three base on balls and scored a run after Chance Clark induced another walk.  Mason Templet broke the game open with a bases clearing two-out double to give the Bengals an 8-1 lead.

Mixon capped off the scoring with solo home runs in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively.

Brian Fairbanks collected a rare three-inning save, giving up just two hits in scoreless relief.  The right-hander issued two walks while striking out a batter.

Wharton's Kyle Smith was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs in 3.1 innings of work.

LSU Eunice return home for a three-game series against Tyler JC.  The Bengals swept the Apaches on the road earlier this month.  A single game is set for 6:00PM on Friday, followed by a doubleheader starting at 1:00PM.

Fans can watch all three games on Bengal All-Access or listen on-line on the Bayou Sports Network.
