TYLER, Tx. – LSU Eunice raced out to a six-run before holding on late to take down Tyler JC 9-8 in the three-game series opener. The win helped the Bengals run their current win streak to 12 games.
LSU Eunice (32-4) took the edge in the first inning after a Brent Hebert RBI double to score Chance Clark in the first inning. The Bengals followed that up a frame later with a two-run Koi Westbrook home run to pad the LSUE lead to 3-0.
A three-run frame helped push the Bengals advantage to 6-0 in the fifth inning highlighted by a two-run double from Mason Templet. Micah McHugh added a sacrifice fly in the frame.
Zach Hester limited the Apaches to a hit and a walk in the first four innings before Michael Morisette's three-run home run cut the LSUE lead in half to 6-3 after five innings. Hester (6-1) picked up the win after throwing 5.2 innings, scattering five runs off five hits and three walks while striking out six batters.
Evan Keller helped LSUE push the lead to 8-3 after a two-run double after back-to-back hits from Jacob Richard and Koi Westbrook. Hayden Mixon scored Keller off a sacrifice bunt to end the Bengals' scoring in the sixth inning.
Tyler JC got within a run in the ninth inning after a Mike Bounds solo home run before Landon Clifton closed the frame to pick up his seventh save of the season. Justin Barton, Dane Dixon and Austin Bradford combined for 2.1 innings of one run relief.
Jacob Richard extended his hit streak to five games after a 3-for-3 evening, scoring two runs on the night. Mason Templet and Koi Westbrook both notched multi-hit nights in LSUE's 11-hit effort.
