Claralee Richard (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) poured in a career-high 20 points including three critical late free throws to help LSU Eunice secure a 93-91 road win at Holmes CC. The victory pushed the Bengals' (9-3) win streak to seven games and completed a regular season sweep of the Bulldogs.
Richard sunk two free throws with 1:40 remaining to help give LSUE the lead back, 84-83. The guard would then make another from the charity stripe to push the Bengals ahead for good, 91-87, with 14.1 seconds remaining. LSUE hit nine vital free throws in the final quarter.
The Bengals found themselves in a 12-point hole midway in the second quarter, 42-31, before ripping off an impressive 21-2 run to take a commanding 53-44 lead. The 39 points in the second quarter are the most in a frame this year for LSUE.
LSUE would take a 57-50 edge into the halftime break and build as large as a 14-point lead after intermission before holding off a late Holmes rally.
In addition to Richard's 20 points, LSUE had five other players record double-digit point efforts including
Le'Shenae Stubblefield's (Delhi, LA, Delhi HS) first double-digit point game. The freshman scored 10 points with
Ava Jones (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) (12),
De'Asia Dixon (Shreveport, LA, Huntington HS) (10),
Sissy Saucier (Ragley, LA, South Beauregard HS) (12) and
Bethany Broussard (Iowa, LA, Iowa HS) (11) reaching that mark.
The Bengals return home this weekend for a two-day series against Houston Community College. Saturday's game is set for a 6:00PM start and Sunday's contest will begin at 2:00PM from inside the HPRE Center.
