Box Score 2 LUFKIN, Tex. – LSU Eunice fell in pair of games at the Angelina Classic against two teams that played in the National Tournament a year ago.
The Bengals suffered an 88-77 setback to Tyler JC and dropped a 90-84 thriller to Angelina College.
Ava Jones (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) paced the LSUE attack with 53 points over the weekend.
LSUE will welcome Angelina College to town on Tuesday, November 19 for a 6:00PM matchup. The game will be streamed on Bengals All-Access.
November 15 vs. Tyler JC
A first half surge was too much for LSUE to overcome as Tyler JC took an 88-77 decision in the opening game for the Bengals in the Angelina Classic.
The Apaches outscored LSUE 28-16 in the first quarter to control of the game.
The Bengals would battle back and go toe-to-toe with No. 15 Tyler JC thanks to a career-high 35 points from Ava Jones. The sophomore was 9-for-21 from the field, including 16-for-18 from the free-throw line. Jones also contributed three steals and five blocks.
The Apaches were able to secure a 48-29 edge on the glass, including 15 rebounds and 22 points from Felmas Koranga.
November 16 vs. Angelina College
LSUE fell in a back-and-forth game with tournament host Angelina College, 90-84, to close out the Angelina Classic. The game featured ten ties and 13 lead changes.
The Bengals roared early against the Roadrunners, leading all but 30 seconds of the first quarter, and holding as large as a seven-point edge in the second quarter. AC rallied with a late first half run to make it a 37-37 game at intermission.
The Roadrunners would grab control of the game out of the locker rooms, using a 10-3 run to build seven-point lead going into the final frame. Angelina used the free throw line to its advantage, hitting 35-of-41 from the charity stripe including 20 made free throws in the second half.
Five LSUE players were in double figures, led by 18 points from Ava Jones.
Chelsey White (Port Allen, LA, Port Allen HS) enjoyed her most productive game as a freshman, going for 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Claralee Richard (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) paced LSUE on the boards with eight rebounds to go with 15 points.
Angelina was led by a double-double from Tai-Sheka Porchia, totaling 19 points and 15 rebounds.
