Box Score EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice women's basketball used a 24-0 run to open the second half and cruise to an 83-58 victory over Coastal Bend College on Saturday inside the HPRE Center. The Bengals (6-5) continue their surge towards the end of the calendar year, winning four of their last five contests.
LSUE sat in a 35-31 hole at intermission before rattling off 24 unanswered points in the first five minutes of the third quarter. The sophomore duo of
Ava Jones (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) and
Claralee Richard (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) did the heavy lifting in the quarter, scoring 16 of the team's 35 points. The defense tightened up as well, limiting Coastal Bend to just 3-for-14 (21.4%) from the field in that quarter.
Jones led all scorers with 16 points, her eighth double-digit point game of the season. Richard chipped in 14 points as well as a team-high eight rebounds.
Defense played a pivotal role in the rally, as LSUE forced 38 turnovers off 25 steals. The Bengals turned those turnovers into 41 points.
Le'Shenae Stubblefield (Delhi, LA, Delhi HS) paced the pressing defense with seven steals to go along with nine points and five assists.
LSUE would lead by as many as 29 points as the Bengals outscored the Cougars, 52-23, after halftime.
The Bengals continued their month-long homestand on Monday, December 16 as LSUE hosts Southern Arkansas Tech inside the HPRE Center. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 5:30PM.
