Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice used a 13-0 run to begin the fourth quarter to help separate from Baton Rouge CC and secure an 85-64 road win on Wednesday at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. The win helped LSUE (16-3) clinch the outright LCCAC regular season championship.
It's the second straight year LSU Eunice has won the conference crown. Originally named the MISS-LOU Conference, the Louisiana based league has been rebranded this season as the Louisiana Community Colleges Athletic Conference (LCCAC) to cover all sports within the five members.
The LCCAC regular season championship is LSUE's third conference title in school history.
The win also extended the Bengals' current win streak to 14 games, the second most in school history. The current record of 16 games was set by the 2013-14 and tied last year.
As the Bengals entered the fourth quarter, LSUE clung to a 58-50 lead. LSU Eunice distanced itself for good with a 13-0 run sparked by a well-rounded team effort. Ten players scored in the final frame, with four players tying for the most points with four.
Ava Jones (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) paced the LSUE offense after half, scoring 11 of her 13 points after intermission. The freshman chipped in five assists. Jones was not the only bench player to play a key role as
Le'Shenae Stubblefield (Delhi, LA, Delhi HS) poured in a team-high 14 points. It was Stubblefield's third double-digit point effort of the season.
De'Asia Dixon (Shreveport, LA, Huntington HS) was the other Bengal to record a double-digit point night, scoring 12.
LSUE led for the majority of the game but could never push past a stingy BRCC effort. The Bears outscored the Bengals 15-13 in the second quarter to trail LSUE 33-27 at the break. Desrael Schnyder and Kayla Watson combined for 48 points as the LSUE defense held the rest of the Bears in check, limiting BRCC to 26-for-72 (36.1%) from the field.
The Bengals will return home for the final two games of the regular season before next month's Region 23 Tournament. LSU Eunice hosts Southern-Shreveport on Saturday inside the HPRE Center for a 2:00PM tip-off. The game will be streamed live on Bengal All-Access and heard on the Bayou Sports Network.
