Early Burst Helps LSUE Cruise Past BRCC

Box Score

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used a 21-2 run in the first half to help take an 83-57 conference opening win over Baton Rouge CC on Wednesday inside the HPRE Center.  LSUE (12-6) won its 20th straight LCCAC game, dating back to the 2016-17 season.

A slow start by the Bengals had the game timed 6-6 before the defense turned the game around.  LSUE's pressure defense would help push a 10-0 mini-run, part of a 21-2 spurt that would last into the second quarter and give LSUE a 27-8 edge.

The Bengals' defense would force 26 turnovers on the night off 16 steals and turning that into 28 points.  BRCC was also held to 21-for-60 shooting from the floor (33.6%).  Le'Shenae Stubblefield (Delhi, LA, Delhi HS) anchored the LSUE defense with a team-high six steals to go with her seven points.

LSUE would lead by as many as 23 points in the first half, taking a 44-22 lead into the break.  Ava Jones (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) paced the team with 12 of her team-high 19 points in the first half.

Freshman Chelsey White (Port Allen, LA, Port Allen HS) and Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS) would chip in double digit point efforts as well, scoring 10 points and 12 points, respectively.

The team will go on a conference-long three-game road swing beginning Saturday at Southern-Shreveport.  The action from Jaguars Gym will be start at 2:00PM.
