Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice women's basketball used 24 free throws to sink Baton Rouge CC, 76-66, on Saturday at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. The Bengals (15-6, 4-0 LCCAC) increased their conference lead to two games as they won their 23rd straight LCCAC contest.
The Bears provided an early shock to the Bengals, holding a 21-20 lead after the first quarter. BRCC's Desrael Schnyder scored 9 of her game-high 25 points in the frame to help the Bears hold a slim margin.
LSUE would hold Schnyder scoreless in the second quarter, as the Bengals clamped down the Bears for just six points in the quarter and helped the Bengals take a 33-28 lead at the halftime break.
Ava Jones (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) would take over after intermission, scoring 16 of her team-high 23 points in the second half including ten in the final quarter.
In addition to Jones, the free throw line would prove critical for the Bengals down the stretch.
Le'Shenae Stubblefield (Delhi, LA, Delhi HS) would give the Bengals a boost by going 11-for-17 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes. Stubblefield would finish with 15 points on the night, joining Jones and
Claralee Richard (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) (14 points) as double digit scorers for LSUE.
LSUE would go 12-for-17 from the stripe as a team in the fourth quarter.
The Bengals return home Wednesday to host Southern-Shreveport as part of a three-game homestand. The action from the HPRE Center is set to begin at 5:30PM.
