Box Score EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice women's basketball continued its dominance in LCCAC play by wrapping up its third consecutive league title in a 93-48 runaway win over Baton Rouge CC on Wednesday inside the HPRE Center. The Bengals (18-6, 7-0 LCCAC) won their 26th straight LCCAC game.
Before the game, LSU Eunice honored its five sophomores as well as student manager with Sophomore Day festivities.
Those sophomores responded from the tip, racing out to a 12-0 lead. LSUE would build a 29-7 first quarter lead thanks to 12 points in the quarter from
Ava Jones (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS).
Jones spearheaded arguably one of the best defensive efforts of the season for the Bengals. LSUE forced 34 turnovers on the evening, turning them into 46 points. Baton Rouge CC was held to 20-for-60 (33.3%) shooting from the field.
Claralee Richard (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) helped the Bengals grow their lead to more than 30 points in the second quarter by sinking three from three-point range. Richard was one of six players to finish in double figures as LSUE took a 54-20 lead into halftime. The sophomore finished with 16 points.
LSUE would struggle through a slow third quarter before coming to life with another flurry in the fourth quarter. Jones would add 13 points in the frame, helping her produce her third 30-plus point game of the season with 32 points in her HPRE Center finale. Jones would also flirt with a triple-double, adding six assists and eight steals.
Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS) and
Le'Shenae Stubblefield (Delhi, LA, Delhi HS) would also come within striking range of triple doubles. Washington would tally 12 points, six assists and six steals, while Stubblefield would stuff the stat sheet with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Miya McKinney (Ville Platte, LA, Ville Platte HS) (10 points) and
Ke'Maesha St. Andre (Oakdale, LA, Oakdale HS) (10 points) would also enjoy double-digit point efforts.
LSU Eunice will conclude the regular season with a pair of road LCCAC games beginning this Saturday against Southern-Shreveport. The doubleheader will begin at 2:00PM.
