Bengals Split The LSU Eunice Classic

Eunice, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Basketball split their home tournament with a pair of games in the LSU Eunice Classic at the HPRE Center.  It is the Bengals' second of five weekend tournament this season.
 
LSU Eunice fell on Friday night to Southern Arkansas University Tech, 70-59, before rallying to blowout Louisiana Christian JV, 88-47.
 
Trinity Harold was the leading scorer over the weekend, netting 22 points in the two games.
 
Nov. 10 vs. Southern Arkansas University Tech – L, 59-70
 
A slow start was too much to overcome as LSU Eunice dropped a 70-59 decision to Southern Arkansas University Tech.  The Rockets went wire-to-wire against the Bengals, building as large as a 19-point first half advantage.
 
LSUE would shoot just 29 percent (9-for-31) in the first half before coming to life after halftime.  The Bengals would use a 10-2 run out of the locker rooms to get within five points, 39-32, but it's the closest LSUE would get.
 
Trinity Harold (Denham Springs, LA, Walker HS) led the Bengals in points with 15 while Tahjea Smith (Texas City, TX, Texas City HS) poured in a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Nov. 11 vs. Louisiana Christian JV – W, 88-47
 
The LSU Eunice newcomers led the way for the Bengals in an 88-47 victory to cap off the LSU Eunice Classic.  The freshman trio of Autumn Chassion (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette Christian Academy HS), Claire Dunnehoo and Deja Tanks (Lake Charles, LA, LaGrange HS) were the only Bengals to record double-digit point efforts.
 
It was LSUE was from the start as the Bengals roared out to a double-digit lead after the first quarter, 21-11.  Dunnehoo would lead the Bengals' charge in the first half, scoring eight of her ten points before intermission.
 
The Bengals would score more than 20 points in three of the four quarters while LSUE's newcomers would score 55 of the team's 88 points.
 
Deja Tanks enjoyed a breakout second half as the freshman post player recorded nine of her game-high 14 in the final frame.  Chassion added 12 points as 12 of the 13 LSUE players scored at least a point.
