Box Score EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice clinched a fourth consecutive LCCAC regular season title in blow out fashion as the Bengals ran past Southern-Shreveport, 104-67, on Saturday at the HPRE Center. The Bengals (13-2, 8-0 LCCAC) have also secured the number 5 seed in the upcoming Region 23 tournament and are guaranteed to host at least first round action at home in the new 19-team format.
LSUE has increased their conference record win streak to 36 wins, dating back to the 2016-17 season.
The Jaguars gave LSUE its best shot early, trailing 15-13 with 1:49 left in the first quarter. As a sign of things to come, the Bengals rattled off a quick 7-0 run to close the quarter capped off by
Brooklyn Fontenot's (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) three pointer to make it 22-13 at the end of the first. The Bengals would bucket eight from downtown in the first half.
Another big push in the second helped the Bengals' lead creep towards 20 points, 47-28, at the halftime break.
Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS) scored 19 of her team-high 22 points before intermission.
LSUE would use a 15-0 run early in the third quarter to jump the advantage to 30 points, reaching a high of 41 points late in the fourth quarter. It was a team effort, as the entire roster played in the second half, spearheaded by the freshman duo of
Tahjea Smith (Texas City, TX, Texas City HS) and
Abigail Lynch (New Caney, TX, New Caney HS) who would combined for 25 points in the second half.
Smith tallied 20 points on the game while Lynch added 18.
LSU Eunice continues its final stretch of the regular season on Wednesday as the Bengals head to Baton Rouge for the first of two final matchups with the Bears. Tip-off from the Bonne Sante Wellness Center is scheduled for 5:30PM.
