EUNICE, La. – A strong defensive effort helped guide LSU Eunice women's basketball to a 71-48 victory over Baton Rouge CC on Saturday at the HPRE Center.  The Bengals (16-3, 11-1 LCCAC) wrapped up a fourth straight LCCAC regular season championship as the team honored their three sophomores – Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS), Trastasia Hester (Houma, LA, Ellender HS) and Chelsey White (Port Allen, LA, Port Allen HS).
 
LSU Eunice limited Baton Rouge CC to just 17-for-64 shooting (26.6%) while forcing 21 turnovers.  The Bengals would turn those takeaways into 21 points.
 
The Bengals surged early, using a Trastasia Hester stepback three pointer to jumpstart a 20-3 run and build a 16-point edge after the first quarter. 
 
LSUE, however, would dominate with its inside game, outscoring the Bears 32-20 in points in the paint led by a game-high 16 points from Tahjea Smith (Texas City, TX, Texas City HS).  Chelsea White added her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds as well as 5 blocks.
 
The Bengals would take a 35-23 lead into intermission and build as large as a 25-point advantage in the fourth quarter.
 
Hester and Trinity Harold (Denham Springs, LA, Walker HS) were the other Bengals to score in double digits for the game, both added 12 points.
 
LSU Eunice now turns its attention to the Region 23 Tournament, beginning on Wednesday.  This year the tournament will feature all 19 teams in a single elimination bracket.  The Bengals are the five-seed and will host Mississippi Gulf Coast on March 31 at 6:00PM.
