LSUE Falls In Region 23 Semis To Top-Ranked Jones

CLINTON, Ms. – LSU Eunice saw its season come to an end in the Region 23 Semifinals after Jones took a 100-74 victory on Wednesday at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College.  The Bengals (18-4) fell in the Region 23 semifinals for a second straight season.
 
The Bengals went toe-to-toe with the unbeaten Bobcats early, leading 8-7 halfway through the first quarter.  Jones took control of the game, rattling off a 27-1 run for the final 5:38 of the first quarter and into the second.
 
LSU Eunice would trail at the break 43-28 and get a final outstanding performance in the second half from Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS).  After being held to just four points before intermission, Washington bucketed 22 points in the second half to get the Bengals at one point within a dozen.
 
Washington's 26 points ends here Bengal career with 674 points, the 5th most all-time in program history.
 
A 32-point fourth quarter for Jones sealed the victory for the top-ranked team in the nation.  The Bobcats had three players score more than 20 points, led by Daisha Bradford's 25.
 
Trinity Harold (Denham Springs, LA, Walker HS) added 17 points for LSUE including five three-pointers.  Tahjea Smith (Texas City, TX, Texas City HS) chipped in 14 points.
 
Jones will vie for its fifth straight Region 23 Championship on Friday against Coahoma.
