EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice could not survive a strong fourth quarter from Southwest Mississippi as the Bengals fell 68-58 on Saturday at the HPRE Center. LSUE (1-10) trailed by one point going into the final frame before being scored by nine points.
LSUE went toe-to-toe with the Bears throughout, seeing nine lead changes in the third quarter before the fateful fourth.
Braille Washington (Rayne, LA, Rayne HS) knocked down a pair of triples in the third, part of her team-high 15-point performance.
The game would sit tied at intermission, 28-28, as Washington would combine with
Princis Goff (Atlanta, LA, Atlanta HS) and
Tierra Sylvas (Pearl River, LA, Northshore HS) to score 24 of the team's 28 points by intermission.
Goff would tally 13 points on the night while Sylvas added 11.
Mookie Lampley led Southwest Mississippi with a 25-point outing.
The Bengals will take a break for the holidays before returning for the Lake Charles New Year's Classic. LSUE will face off with Midland, East Mississippi and Columbia State beginning on Friday, December 30. All games will be played at Burton Coliseum.
