First Half Dominance Gives LSUE Runaway Win In Playoff Opener

Box Score

EUNICE, La. – Any coach will tell you that they want their team to be playing their best at the right moment – and that seems to be the case for LSU Eunice Women's Basketball.  The Bengals dominated from start to finish in a 91-57 win over Delgado CC on Monday in the second round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.  The three-seed Bengals (15-10, 7-2 LCCAC) hosted the 14-seed Dolphins in the 19-team single-elimination bracket.

The win sets up a Quarterfinal matchup with six-seed Jones College in Eunice on Tuesday at 5:30PM.  The Bengals have fallen to the Bobcats in the Region 23 Semifinals the last two years.

It was a first half controlled by the Bengals thanks to a pair of double digit runs.  LSUE broke away from Delgado in the first quarter thanks to a 14-0 spurt, then would push its lead past 20 points with a 12-0 in the second.  Both bursts were triggers by LSUE's stifling trapping defense forcing multiple turnovers.

LSUE held 46-21 lead at intermission with Trinity Harold (Denham Springs, LA, Walker HS) scoring 11 of her team-high 16 points in the first half.

LSUE emptied its bench in the second half, giving starters valuable rest time heading into a one-day turnaround for the Quarterfinals.  The Bengals extended their lead past 30 points as seven different players hit a three-point basket in the second half.

Every rostered player scored at least three points as Josie Ogea (Big Lake, LA, Bell City HS) and Deja Tanks (Lake Charles, LA, LaGrange HS) pumped in double-digit point efforts off the bench, both scoring 11 points.

Vanessa Duhe (Lacassine, LA, Lacassine HS) was the other LSUE player to score double figures, adding 10 points.

Delgado was led by 14 points from both Korriana Reynaud and Skylar Davis.
