EUNICE, La. – For three quarters, LSU Eunice women's basketball had the five-time reigning Region 23 Champions Jones College on the ropes.  In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats showed their championship pedigree.
 
After going round-for-round with Jones, a cold spell would seal LSUE's fate as the Bengals dropped an 82-66 decision to Jones in the Region 23 Quarterfinals on Tuesday at the HPRE Center.  LSUE (15-11) has seen its season come to an end at the hands of the Bobcats.
 
An early surge had Bengals roaring early, using an 8-0 late in the first to take 20-14 lead.  The fast-paced quarter saw Vanessa Duhe (Lacassine, LA, Lacassine HS) score eight of her 10 points in the opening frame.
 
LSUE would lead by as many as eight points in the  second quarter, fending off any possible runs from Jones.  Trinity Harold (Denham Springs, LA, Walker HS) helped lead the Bengals to a 36-33 halftime advantage, scoring 10 of her team-high 18 points in the half.
 
The early portion of the second half saw the Bengals and Bobcats go back and forth.  Leading up to the early fourth quarter, the half featured five lead changes and one tie.  That's when Jones seized control of the game. 
 
The Bobcats would rattle off a 17-1 run, cashing in on the dominant inside-outside game of Sakyia White and Meloney Thames.  The two scored 16 of Jones' 27 points in the quarter on their way to 46 combined points.
 
LSUE would have four players score in double figures as Autumn Chassion (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette Christian Academy HS) and Tahjea Smith (Texas City, TX, Texas City HS) contributed 11 and 13 points.
