BATON ROUGE, La. – Two out hits proved costly for LSU Eunice as the Bengals fell to Pearl River 10-5 on Saturday at Pete Goldsby Field. The game was played in Baton Rouge due to a scheduled doubleheader for LSUE featuring Baton Rouge CC which was postponed for a later date.
Seven of the Wildcats' ten runs came with two outs as LSUE couldn't quite put away Pearl River in crucial situations. Despite the tough luck, it was the Bengals that would throw the first big punch of the game. Trailing 2-0 in the second inning,
Darian Richard (Rayne, LA, Rayne HS) uncorked a towering three-run home to give LSUE the temporary lead.
Reed Eason's (West Monroe, LA, West Monroe HS) steal of home padded the Bengals' lead to 4-2.
It was short lived as the Wildcats would tie the game in the bottom half of the second, followed by five unanswered runs.
LSUE would have a chance to claw back in the seventh inning, loading the bases with one out. PRCC would induce the inning ending double play, keeping hold of an 8-4 lead at the time.
A pinch-hit home run by
Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) in the eighth was the final run of the game for the Bengals. Richard and Eason paced the LSUE offense with a pair of hits each in LSUE's seven hit output.
It was an uncharacteristic night on the mound for LSUE that saw six hit by pitches, three wild pitches and four walks.
The Bengals return home Sunday for a doubleheader against Baton Rouge CC starting at 2:00PM.
