BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice saw a three-run lead evaporate as the Bengals suffered a 5-4 setback to Baton Rouge CC at Pete Goldsby Field on Friday. The game marks the third of five straight games the Bengals (22-6) and Bears play against each other.
LSUE played from behind early as BRCC plated a first inning run. The Bengals would respond with a pair of two-run frames, as
Cole Romero (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) muscled a two-run single in the third followed by a two-run error off the bat of
Reed Eason (West Monroe, LA, West Monroe HS) in the fourth.
The Bengals would only manage two hits the remainder of the contest.
BRCC crept to within a run in the fifth with back-to-back two out RBI base hits. One of four LSUE errors helped tie the game in the seventh after a sacrifice grounder brought home a run.
The Bears would regain the lead an inning later with another two-out base hit to take a 5-4 advantage.
LSUE would have the tying run in the ninth at third base before a strikeout ended the threat and the game.
Luke McGibboney (Gonzales, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) was saddled with the loss after tossing three relief innings, giving up two runs off four hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Cole Romero had half of LSUE's four hits, driving in two runs.
LSUE and Baton Rouge will play again on Saturday in Eunice starting at 6:00PM from Bengal Stadium.
