Early Offense Key In Saturday's Split With BRCC

BATON ROUGE, La. – Big innings early played a critical role in both games as LSU Eunice and Baton Rouge split a Saturday doubleheader at Pete Goldsby Field.

LSUE used a six run first inning to take an 11-9 decision in the opener, followed by a five-run third for the Bears on their way to an 11-1 win in the finale.

The Bengals will try to even the four-game series on Saturday in a 3:00PM contest.

Game 1 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 11-9
An early offensive explosion helped LSU Eunice hold on for an 11-9 win over Baton Rouge CC to open up Saturday's doubleheader.

LSUE came out hot, striking for six runs off six hits in the opening inning.  Five of the runs came with two outs, headlined by Christian Gonzalez's two-run double.

BRCC would knot up the game 6-6 after a pair of three run frames.  During the final four innings, the two sides would go back and forth as the bottom of the LSUE lineup kept producing for the Bengals offense.  The final four batters in the LSUE order – Kole Myers, Cole Romero, Grant Mangrum and Christian Gonzalez – accounted for eight of the team's 15 hits, driving in a combined eight RBIs while scoring six times.

Brandon Mooney and Reed Eason also had multi-hit games for the LSUE offense.

Drew Lasseigne would grab the win after tossing 3.2 innings of relief.  Lasseigne scattered two earned runs off three hits to go along with three strikeouts.

Game 2 vs. Baton Rouge CC, - L, 1-11
LSU Eunice gave seven early runs as the Bengals could not answer in an 11-1 setback to Baton Rouge.

The Bengals saw themselves in a 7-0 hole after three innings as the Bears handed Patrick Vienne his first loss of the season.  Six of the seven runs in that span came with two outs as just two of the seven runs Vienne surrendered were earned.

Peyton LeJeune scored the lone run of the game for LSUE with a solo home run, one of just four hits for the Bengals in the game.
