EUNICE, La. –
Cole Romero (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) connected on a bases loaded single in the ninth inning to give LSU Eunice a 9-8 victory over Baton Rouge CC on Saturday at Bengal Stadium. The win gives LSUE (30-13) the season series against the Bears as the two sides met nine times this season.
The win marks the 15th straight season that LSU Eunice has won the season series with Baton Rouge, dating back to their first meeting in 2005. The Bengals own a 73-15 all-time record against the Bears.
LSU Eunice used a five-run fifth inning to take an 8-3 advantage after the game was tied heading into the inning.
Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) provided the highlight of the inning with a two-run double, part of a five RBI afternoon for the freshman.
Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) and Cole Romero also produced RBI base hits in the inning.
Coley drove in the first three runs of the game for the Bengals, singling home
Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) in the second inning followed by a two-run double in the third that would bring home LaRocca and
Brandon Mooney (Madisonville, LA, Mandeville HS).
After the Bears would mount a late rally, tying the game in the ninth inning, the Bengals responded quickly in the home half of the frame. After Bryce LaRocca walked,
Alexander Saunier (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette HS) provided a pinch-hit single followed by
Carter Quinn (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) being intentionally walked to load the bases.
Cole Romero's sharply hit ball would end the game as LaRocca scored the game winning run.
LaRocca joined Coley with three-hit games as the sophomore scored a career-high four times.
Drew Lasseigne (Greenwell Springs, LA, Central HS) picked up the win throwing the final two outs of the ninth, working out of a bases loaded jam.
