TYLER, Texas – LSU Eunice used another solid pitching performance from
Dalton Burrell (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) and early offense to guide the Bengals to a 5-4 victory over Tyler JC on Saturday at Mike Carter Field. The Bengals (31-13) again showed their mettle, being able to win their ninth one-run game of the season.
The Bengals raced out to a 5-0 lead through five innings as LSUE used a balanced offensive attack. Eight of the team's starters registered a hit in the LSUE nine-hit attack, led by
Bryce LaRocca (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) going 2-for-3.
Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) got the scoring started with a double to score
Brandon Mooney (Madisonville, LA, Mandeville HS).
After a bases loaded walk in the fourth, LSUE would score three runs in the fifth.
Cole Romero's (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) solo home run was followed by a
Christian Gonzalez (Breaux Bridge, LA, Breaux Bridge HS) RBI off an error, followed by a Mooney sacrifice fly.
Dalton Burrell kept the Apaches at bay for the first five innings, giving up just two hits and a walk. TJC would chase Burrell in the sixth after scratching three runs to cut the deficit to two, 5-3. Burrell improved to 4-0 on the season after going 5.2 innings, scattering three earned runs off five hits and three walks. He also had three strikeouts.
Jackson Rodriguez (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood Park HS) would pick up the save going the final 3.1 innings. Rodriguez would give up a solo home run in the ninth, his only hit allowed.
