EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used timely hitting and another day of strong pitching as the Bengals were able to take a 4-1 decision over Southeastern Iowa CC on Saturday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (23-0) is the first team to hold the Blackhawks to a single run or less this season.
A pitching duel for much of the afternoon, LSU Eunice saw its timely hits come in the sixth inning.
Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) would lead the inning off with a double, advance to third on a fly out and
Korey Cooper (Dickinson, TX, Dickinson HS) would reach base after being hit by a pitch.
Walker Bridges (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) came through in the clutch, taking the first pitch he saw dribbling down the third base line allowing both Coley and Cooper to score. The double was Bridges' fourth of the season.
The bases would end up loaded later in the frame for
Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS), lofting a 2-2 pitch just over the shortstop's reach to score another pair of runs and make it 4-0 LSUE.
The Bengals would collect four of their seven hits in the sixth inning alone. Coley was the lone Bengal with a multi-hit game.
Southeastern Iowa would chase LSUE starter
Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) in the seventh after manufacturing a sacrifice fly. Schexnaydre turned in arguably his best performance as a Bengal, going seven full innings to improve to 3-0 on the season. The freshman scattered one earned run off three hits while not issuing a walk. Schexnaydre would strike out four batters.
Blake Lobell (Holden, LA, Springfield HS) would toss a perfect eighth before
Josh Gregoire (Baton Rouge, LA, Episcopal HS) picked up his fourth save of the season. The Blackhawks wouldn't make it easy, loading the bases in the ninth before a fly ball ended the game.
LSUE continues its series with Southeastern Iowa on Sunday at 11:00AM.
