EUNICE, La. – It took nearly three months, but the odds finally came for LSU Eunice Baseball. After the Bengals raced out of the gate to a school record 39-0 start, LSUE was upended 5-2 by South Arkansas CC on Tuesday at Bengal Stadium.
The setback snapped the a single-season record for win streak and start to the season.
LSUE found itself in an early hole as the Stars struck for a single run in the opening inning, capitalizing on back-to-back hits to start the game. South Arkansas added another run in the sixth to make it a 2-0 game.
The Bengals seemed primed to have the big inning to take the lead and push ahead of South Arkansas in the bottom half of the frame. LSUE was issued five free passes, but two runners picked off on the bases paths would squash the possibility.
Zachary Thomas drove home the only runs of the game for LSUE with a bases loaded two-run single.
The Stars answered right back with another run in the seventh, followed by two more in the ninth. South Arkansas outhit LSUE 11-3 on the game.
