SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball concluded a 10-game road trip in style as the Bengals swept Centenary College JV in a Monday doubleheader at Shehee Stadium. The Bengals (36-0) return home this weekend for a three-game series against Delgado CC.
The two victories helped LSUE set the school record for longest win streak. The Bengals eclipsed the previous mark set by the 2020 and 2021 teams as the two teams combined for a 35-game win streak to start their respective seasons.
LSUE was able to get through Centenary with 9-1 and 9-3 victories. The Bengals saw five different players collect multi-hit games over the two games.
Zachary Thomas (Jesup, GA, Wayne County HS) led LSUE with four hits on the afternoon.
Game 1 vs. Centenary College JV – W, 9-1
LSU Eunice used a late offensive surge to push past Centenary College JV, 9-1, to open its doubleheader.
The Bengals and Gents were tied 1-1 heading into the fifth inning.
Nick Duplechain (Lafayette, LA, Iota HS) jump started the Bengals' cause, lifting a three-run home run to give LSUE the lead for good. The Bengals would pile on four more runs in the sixth,
Korey Cooper (Dickinson, TX, Dickinson HS) provided the big hit with a two-run single before Duplechain drove in his fourth run of the day with a RBI double.
Reuben Williams (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) closed out the scoring with a sacrifice groundout to plate
Walker Bridges (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS).
Duplechain and Cooper each had multi-hit games for the Bengals' 11-hit output.
Patrick Vienne (Natchitoches, LA, St. Mary's HS) and
Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) split the seven-inning game. Vienne received the no decision after tossing three shutout innings, giving up just two hits and a walk. The sophomore struck out four batters.
Schexnaydre grabbed the win, hurling four relief frames. The freshman gave up one earned run off two hits and a walk to go along with two punchouts.
Game 2 vs. Centenary College JV – W, 9-3
Late offensive magic helped LSU Eunice again as the Bengals walked away with a 9-3 victory over Centenary.
The two sides went back-and-forth early, swapping runs the first two innings. Zachary Thomas began the scoring with an RBI double, followed by Walker Bridges being able to plate a run off a wild pitch.
Nick Duplechain broke the game towards the Bengals again, punching a two run single in the third inning. He would later score in the inning off of one of three Centenary errors.
LSUE would cross two more runs in the fourth off a
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) RBI bunt single and
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) fly out that would help score Willis.
After Joubert sacrificed home another run in the sixth,
Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) uncorked a solo home run to push the game to 9-3 Bengals.
LSUE saw five different pitchers on the mound as
Brandon Brewer (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) logged his second win of the season. Brewer hurled three relief frames, giving up one earned run off four hits and three walks. He would strike out three batters.
