EUNICE, La. – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named 32 LSU Eunice student-athletes to its All-Academic Team, the organization announced earlier this week. The 32 recipients are the second most in the athletic department's history, falling just short of last year's record of 34.
This is the second year in a row that all six athletic teams of LSU Eunice earned a NJCAA All-Academic Team designation.
"This is another tremendous example of the hard work and dedication our entire LSU Eunice family puts in for all of our students," LSU Eunice athletic director Jeff Willis said. "I could not be more proud of our student-athletes and their commitment to success in everything they do."
Baseball and Softball led the Bengals' awardees with eight student-athletes each. Women's Soccer received six All-Academic Team nominations followed by Men's Soccer (five), Men's Basketball (4) and Women's Basketball (1). The baseball team had two of the five first-team members as Alexander Saunier and Zachary Thomas receiving the top billing. They were joined by first-team honorees softball's Landri Campbell, women's soccer Jasmine Liddell and men's basketball's Kiani Saxon.
A total of 10,267 student-athletes were honored with All-Academic Team designation after achieving a grade point average higher than 3.60 during the 2022-2023 academic year. The criteria for the three All-Academic teams are listed as below:
NJCAA All-Academic First Team: 4.00 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Second Team: 3.80-3.99 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Third Team: 3.60-3.79 GPA
Three teams were also named NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year – baseball, softball and women's soccer – for earning a team cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better.
