Box Score BEEVILLE, Texas – LSU Eunice Women's Basketball saw six different players score in double figures as the Bengals used a team effort in a 77-51 win at Coastal Bend on Wednesday. The Bengals (3-1) swept the home-and-home series with the Cougars after defeating Coastal Bend last week at home.
It was a similar story to that win in Eunice as the Bengals used a first half surge to turn a tight game into a comfortable lead for LSUE most of the evening. LSUE held a slim 18-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter but used a quick 13-0 run to push ahead of the Cougars. LSUE used a trio of three-point baskets, two from
Simone Clay (Bloomington, MN, Bloomington Jefferson HS) and one from
Kamiera McDonald (Baton Rouge, LA, Scotlandville HS), in that spurt to push its lead to 31-16 midway through the quarter.
LSUE held a 39-31 advantage at intermission as
Ja'miya Vann (Walker, LA, Walker HS) and
Trinity Thomas (Walker, LA, Walker HS) each had eight first half points to lead the scoring cause. Vann would finish with 10 points while Thomas poured in a team-high 14.
The Bengals put the clamps on the Cougars' offense in the third quarter, outscoring Coastal Bend 19-8 to push the advantage to 18 points, 58-40, heading into the fourth quarter. Thomas and
Mariah Heard (Bastrop, LA, Bastrop HS) each had six points in the pivotal frame. Heard was one of the Bengals' double digit scorers, adding 12 points on the evening.
Other double-digit scorers included Clay (12), McDonald (10), and
Ray'Onna Sterling (St. James, LA, Walker HS) (10).
LSUE continues a season-long five game road swing this weekend at the Angelina College Classic. The Bengals take on Southwestern Christian College on Friday at 2:00PM, followed by a Saturday date with host Angelina, also at 2:00PM.
