Late Rally Falls Short On Sophomore Day

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Basketball simply ran out of time as the Bengals rallied back late in a 71-66 setback to Delgado CC on Saturday at the HPRE Center.  The Bengals (4-22, 3-3 LCCAC) find themselves still in control of their own destiny in hopes of capturing the LCCAC regular season crown.

The Bengals honored their seven sophomores before the start of the game.

LSUE would endure a slow start the game, being held eight points in the first quarter and 20 points total in the half.

The Bengals finally caught fire in the fourth quarter as they found themselves in a 49-36 hole entering the final frame.  LSUE would score 30 points in the quarter, led Mary Leday's (Opelousas, LA, Northwest HS) 12 points in the quarter.  Leday would lead all scorers with 24 points on the night.

LSUE trailed 12 points with under two minutes to play but stormed back, trimming the deficit to one point, 64-63, with under a minute to play.  The Bengals could not find the go-ahead basket as Delgado would pull away at the free throw stripe.

Kaylan Jack (Baton Rouge, LA, Madison Prep Academy) was the other Bengal to score in double digits, recording 12 points on the afternoon.

LSU Eunice turns its attention to Southern-Shreveport a game off the Jaguars' pace for the conference lead.  A win would give LSUE the all-important tiebreaker over Southern-Shreveport with the series win for the season.  Tip-off from north Louisiana on Wednesday is set for 6:00PM.
